Zip Panel Machines

Precision tools for durable roof installation

The Zip Panel (Standing Seam) roofing system has become a distinguished choice in modern construction due to its aesthetic appeal, high durability, resistance to environmental conditions, and flexibility in achieving diverse designs. However, flawless execution of this system requires specialized equipment and machinery, each playing a vital role in the production and installation process.

These machines ensure the precision and efficiency needed to create a safe, watertight, and visually refined roof—from the initial roll-forming of metal sheets to the final seaming of panel joints. In this section, we introduce the key machinery that lies at the core of the Zip Panel system.

Underdeck Forming Machine

This portable machine is assembled or operated directly at the project site. Its primary function is to roll‑form metal sheets—typically galvanized steel or aluminum with a thickness of 0.6 to 0.8 mm—into trapezoidal or corrugated profiles. These sheets serve as the underdeck layer in the Zip Panel roofing system, providing the structural base for the installation of insulation layers and the final roof panels.

Key Feature:

  • Custom sheet length production: The machine can produce sheets in the exact lengths required by the project, reducing material waste and improving the continuity of the underdeck layer.

  • Trapezoidal and corrugated profiling capability: Depending on the roof design and structural requirements, the machine can form both profile types.

  • Precision in profile dimensions and pitch: Ensures uniformity in the dimensions of the produced sheets for the accurate installation of subsequent layers.

Standing Seam Panel Roll Forming Machine

This machine is also portable and designed for on-site production of the final standing seam (Zip Panel) roof panels. By passing metal sheets (0.6 to 0.8 mm pre-painted galvanized steel or 0.9 to 1.2 mm aluminum) through a series of precision rollers, the machine shapes the longitudinal edges into standing seams of standard height. This roll-forming process produces panels with various widths and theoretically unlimited lengths (depending on project requirements).

Key Feature:

  • Production of standing seam panels: Creates a standard profile for mechanical interlocking and watertight performance.

  • Adjustable panel width: Allows the production of panels in various widths.

  • High panel production speed: Suitable for large-scale projects requiring fast execution.

  • Dimensional accuracy and sheet integrity: Ensures the structural quality and visual consistency of the panels.

Zip Panel Curving Machine

Following the production of the panels by the roll-forming machine, this device performs cold bending on the standing seam panels. This process is essential for creating curved, arched, and domed structures, such as barrel vault roofs.

The machine utilizes a set of adjustable rollers to impart precise curvature along the length of the panel. A critical technical consideration is that the bending process must be calibrated to ensure that neither the standing seam structure nor the panel’s paint coating suffers from damage, cracking, or deformation.

Key Feature:

  • Precise radius bending: Allows accurate adjustment of the bending radius to match the architectural design.

  • Preservation of standing seam integrity: Prevents damage to the panel’s interlocking seam profile.

  • Compatibility with different materials: Capable of curving aluminum and galvanized steel within specified thickness ranges.

  • Continuous curvature execution: Enables the creation of gentle or sharp curves without the need to cut the panel.

Zip Panel Seaming Machine (Lock Seamer)

The seaming machine performs the final stage in the production and installation of the zip panel roof. Its primary function is to permanently and securely mechanically lock the standing seams of the panels. After the panels are positioned on the clips and dedicated support holders, the seaming machine travels along the standing seam and, under high pressure, folds and locks the edges of two adjacent panels together.

This locking process creates a mechanical, non-detachable connection between the panels, resulting in a roof surface that is completely watertight and airtight, since no drilling or penetration is made into the top sheet.

Key Feature:

  • Strong and Permanent Mechanical Lock: Creates a robust bond without the need for adhesives or chemical sealants that may degrade over time.
  • Watertight and Airtight: The complete locking process effectively prevents the ingress of water, snow, dust, and air beneath the roof.
  • Compatibility with Various Panels: Capable of working on both flat panels and those previously curved (by the curving machine).
  • Speed and Accuracy in Installation: Ensures correct and uniform seam locking along the entire length of the panels.
  • Penetration-Free: Preserves the integrity and aesthetic of the roof’s appearance, preventing potential weak points for moisture ingress.
